it was amazing

I absolutely loved reading this book. It is about the best thing I have read all year. I don’t think I will give anything away by saying it is about the son of William Shakespeare. Apparently the spelling of the name Hamnet was also written as Hamlet. What surprised me about the story, was that it was mostly about the fascinating character of Hamnet’s mother, Agnes aka Anne ((Hathaway). The writing is just beautiful. Very descriptive passages peppered with archaic words from the period. I loved the telling of the story & the way it weaves back and forth as the tale unfolds. And most interesting is that Shakespeare, the man, husband and father is not mentioned by name. Yet we know it is the playwright. I was drawn in from the start. It is a story of love and of grief and loss. Very evocative of time and place. The author notes at the end that it is a work of fiction.
