I was pretty skeptical about reading this book, but I picked it up because my friend Kristen couldn't stop raving about it. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Now, I am not a huge fan of Meyer's. She's just not a strong writer. Her characters are shallow and unbelievable, and the way she delivers a plot leaves the reader wanting much more. I think she has some seriously messed up views on what is and isn't "romantic" in a relationship. But, she is a good storyteller. I liked this one more than I did the Twilight series, but the similarities between the two made me realize I was reading more of her hopelessly cheesey teenage romance, and that she just changed the vampires to aliens. Meyer, please give me a different female character. I'm tired of these girls who are torn between two men, not knowing who to love. I don't like reading about women who are treated by these men like they are too weak or stupid to make thier own choices. And I really don't like that all of your male characters take a creepy, stalker-like, abusive, and oh-so-controlling personality that is supposed to be considered romantic and cute. It really just kinda freaks me out. You can come up with a good story, but your delivery makes me wish I hadn't wasted my time.

Shay Oh my, you worded that so perfectly. I had the hardest time explaining my opinion on this book. Your review is genius.
