Very Underwhelmed and disappointed - could even be a 1 * if it wasn't for the little pockets of humour... .. I was so looking forward to reading it, bought it as a Christmas present to myself to read to fill void of lack of family.. Just did not deliver and although it was easy reading and amusing in parts with the 4 OAP 'detectives' well characterised, it was very slow with just a few twists and turns and I found that I didn't really care who did what and how or who murdered who.
Too many character in the book that were unnecessary and at time confusing - Was the priest a priest and did he become a doctor? not explained or maybe I missed it dosing off from boredom. Also all the 'tying up the loose ends' explanations which are so common in poor lazy writing. Not a page turner that made me want to sit on the edge of of my seat or bed and read into the night. This book would not have been so high up on the best sellers list if it had not been written by a well known TV personality - Just a thought are people are buying it for his name and also being underwhelmed?? Give me a well planned and thought out Clare Mackintosh, Jane Harper, Lisa Jewell any day. Sorry Richard - stick to the day job of House of Games which you are really great in.
