A patient, slow burn read, at times really slow.
A story about living with guilt. Living chained to your past, holding on to hurt.
Forgive yourself. It’s easy to say, but so much harder to actually do.
I ended up warming to Kieran. His tortured past, dealing with an ailing parent, becoming a new dad, and the whispers that he hears about what happened all those years ago was his fault. Hearing the whispers from his friends, locals, and worst of all his mother.
The ending was rushed. Bronte's murder was never fully explained. The motive for the murder of Gabby was a bit childish but these were teenagers we were dealing with. Maybe if the story was told with flashback scenes to what happened and what they were thinking 12 years ago. All in all a good read but a step below The Dry and The Lost Man. 3 1/2 stars.
