The conclusion of the Chaos Walking trilogy is just more of the same. The President (Mayor) is still evil, the Spackle are still attacking, the Answer are still carrying out raids, Todd is still following the Mayor around and still pining for Viola, and Viola is still pining for Todd (despite several much more appealing and far less whiny males hanging around). Ho! Hum!

This is the ending of a trilogy about settlers and indigenous people getting along, about the difficulties in interpersonal relationships when one group always knows what the other is thinking, about how power can corrupt, about how war makes "monsters of men". The end is shocking but fitting and ultimately satisfying.

What makes this trilogy palatable is the non-stop action. I couldn't stop reading. Isn't that what a good book should do....make you want to stop everything and just read? So why can't I give this trilogy 5 stars? Because the whining and yearning and, yes, even the non-stop action and twists and turns in the plot became tiresome and felt manipulative.

Will this series attract fans of Hunger Games and The Maze Runner? I'm sure. Is it worth the time and effort? Definitely. Will this be on my top ten? No way.
