Shama'il means virtues. Over time the word has become more specified and it has become a term meaning "the human aspect, life style and personal life of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad ï·�". The word was first used and systematised by the Persian scholar, Imam Tirmidhi (d.892), who is thought to be the first to compile the shama'il known as shama'il-i MuhammaDiyah (The Appearance of Muhammad).

This particular translation of the blessed shama'il was completed by Abdul Aziz Suraqah and Mohammed Aslam. What's distinctive about this translation, aside from the aesthetics, it is the first translation with a full English commentary.
