feb. 10: started listening to this audiobook.



feb. 16: finally we are getting somewhere. i was wondering when we would stop reminiscing about primary school days and imaginary friends and actually start finding out more about the donations and what exactly is going on. the children have left hailsham - hopefully things will get more exciting now.



feb. 23: completed this audiobook.

My thoughts: This was good, once you made it past the Hailsham years. Nice characters - enjoyed the love/hate relationship Kathy and Ruth had, though at times I really disliked Ruth. Tommy always seemed sort of child-like. The whole concept of donations really makes one think about all of the possible ethical issues that would be involved in something like that, and what the people must be like in a society that could allow that to happen. This would be good for a book club discussion.



My book description: Kathy, Ruth and Tommy spend their formative years at a preppy school in England thinking they are just like children/young adults anywhere else. Unfortunately, as they get older and are ready to leave school, they find out that they are not like everyone else and that their lives have already been mapped out, and they have no choice in the matter. The book describes those 'growing up' years and also the years after, as they fulfill their 'pre-defined' destinies.
