Imho, Abercrombie's best, of those I've read, thus far...Most of the way through the book I was thinking it is a solid 4*(star) book, but as the story rolled to an ending, it got even better!...As w/ most great books, the magic is in the characters...and there are many. I'm sort of baffled that these books fall into the fantasy genre...This story was a solid "western" from beginning to end...but if you're like me and don't like westerns much, don't let that put you off..The book is great, regardless of whatever genre it is categorized. If someone can explain why these books are considered fantasy...let me know. Even tho these are stand alone books, I suggest reading them in order, as the author likes to connect characters and events..it just adds something to the overall picture.
