Tara Westover was born in Clifton, Idaho. She is one of seven siblings, and was raised with radical beliefs from her parents that would not end up defining her, but unfolding her towards her future as she discovers her potential in the world unknown to her. There is a passion that grows as the years pass and her ability to discover and adapt to new surroundings and way of living is nothing short of amazing.
For some, this is a memoir that requires an open mind, as there is abuse and the experiences are explained through her eyes. Tara is referenced in this book as “pure gold as that is exactly what this story is.
Understanding the intense moments of emotion being felt from reading this book will leave you in awe. I’m left with many questions but not because the book failed to provide the answers. These questions can only be answered in person. Do the eyes of the author carry within them the sacrifice, the historical inner growth she has faced? Would her presence radiate an energy that I’m unfamiliar to, and feel inferior to, but long to understand?
The experience that I have been fortunate to read will stay with me. This experience has me searching for truths I couldn’t have predicted I would ever be looking for. My mind feels open, accepting to foreign territory and longing for a chance to grow with the author.
I’m usually respectful to the opinions of other readers, but to disregard this story is to hold denial that this is one of the greatest memoirs ever written. Finishing the last page I felt inspired to relive the story all over again just as heavy as it was.
Congratulations Tara, for your accomplishments today and your successes tomorrow.
