Review of the audiobook
Someone suggested that I should try Grace Calloway and mentioned this book. On Amazon, it had a high rating, but the most popular reviews complained about too much sex, too graphic, too often. One reviewer called it pornographic (it isn't). So, I said to myself, you'd better try this author. The Chirpbook audio was quite inexpensive.
I enjoyed the book more than I expected. It has interesting characters, a pretty good plot (and lots of it), and a real mystery added to the romance. And it has sex. Lots of it. Fairly graphic but not icky.
On occasion I enjoy a debauched, heartless hero, and Alaric was that, and more. Emma is a country girl plopped down in the city for a season, but she is sharp, opinionated, and honest. It was fun watching them fall in love even though each was unwilling to admit it.
I don’t know if I will read Grace Callaway again, but I do know that I will avoid books narrated by Erin Mallon. She added nothing to the story, and her frequent mispronunciations irritated me. Really, if you’re going to narrate a historical romance set in London, learn how to pronounce “Marquess.
