I have finally been given permission to put this aside. As a narrative, it drove me nuts. The plot meanders without any apparent direction. If I'd read and loved other works by the author, I might've built up a reservoir of trust and continued to push through the drivel. As it is, I don't care about any of the characters or what they're doing.
I did enjoy the dialogue style, but I'm not going to keep reading just for that. Sorry.
The few bright spots in what I read were the sex scenes: absolutely howl-riffic! Probably not the author's intent, but OMG. So funny. Authors of romance novels - the genre that probably gets the least literary cred - would be absolutely panned if their sex scenes were anything like Hemingway's. Seriously. They should be excerpted and given to aspiring romance novelists as examples of "what not to do if you ever hope for success."
