it was amazing

This is probably one of the longest books (350 pages) that I ever just sat down and read from beginning to end in one sitting. I read domestic fiction pretty much exclusively, but this one stood out for me as exceptional.

When Sheila and Fred Merton are found brutally murdered in their mansion in an uber-exclusive New York suburb, the list of suspects is long. Quite a few people stand to benefit from their deaths, including their three children, their longtime housekeeper, and various other interested parties.

As the murder investigation progresses, it is revealed that in addition to being very wealthy, the Mertons were almost universally disliked. As family secrets and scandals are revealed, alibis fall apart, and pretty much everyone seems like an equally viable suspect.

Like the previous book that I read by this author, The Couple Next Door, it is not that the plot is especially unique, it's just a really good story, well told, with twists and turns galore.
