A highly readable middle chapter, though pretty par for the course in this series. I kind of miss being in space, and I miss some of the human characters, but I'm liking the greater focus on Toby and Barb. And the introduction of Cajeiri as a point of view character continues to be a great way to shake up the series.

Still, there's some aspects of the world that I wish Cherryh would get to addressing. Like, WHY is the current power structure so worth defending? And I really wish the main characters would start to make more mistakes, they're a little too perfect sometimes.
