4.75 I’m gonna do my best to review this through the unending storm of tears so here we go.
This book was dark. So much so that I wouldn’t feel comfortable calling this a YA novel, this book ventures into some really dark territory, but I loved it. A lot of people have said that Pip’s character development slid backwards in this book but I don’t see it that way. She and almost every single person she loves has been incredibly screwed over by the justice system, and after living with PTSD after the last book, I think her decisions make sense. I’m not defending them, I’m saying that given context, I get it.

What really blew me away about this book was how it truly brought so many details from the first and second book full circle. It’s clear that Holly Jackson knew exactly how she was going to tie these threads together from the moment she started weaving them. I was in a constant state of “wtf is happening. Oh this makes sense!.

This book really explores moral ambiguity and the justice system. If you want a clear cut mystery, this may not be for you, but if you want to venture into muddy waters, it’s incredible.

I have to say that Pip in this novel both broke and stole my heart. Our girl was STRUGGLING after the events of the last novel, and really was trying her best. I loved how she was sure of herself, and that she was so thoughtful of those around her even when it broke her heart. (The last 10 pages had me in a mess).

My only complaint *spoiler ahead* is the ending between Pip and Ravi. I’d love to have a little novella of them re-meeting after almost two years apart and get a glimpse of them navigating life together after all of this trauma. I also really want to see the conversation between Pip and Becca.

Overall an incredible read. Please check trigger warnings before reading though!
