it was ok
bookshelves: classics

So, I know this is supposed to be an amazing and rich work that captures the spirit of the roaring 20s. Perhaps it didn't do much for me because I read it for a class at my public highschool, where "unpacking" a great book boiled down to regurgitating the plot in a busy-work book report. Yes, there was some interesting symbolism, but no one there to lead my 17-year-old self to what it meant. Maybe when I'm retired I'll take more fun literature classes and get another chance at it.

Heather Wood I feel ya, girl. Plus, the focus character, Gatsby, doesn't seem to change throughout the whole story. It was a relief to get to the end.
