The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

I find it surprising that this second installment of “The Folk of the Air series is rated higher than the first. While still receiving 4 stars from me, not 5 like book one, which is a good rating…I was ever so slightly disappointed. I really like the position of power that Jude has fought and manipulated her way into. I was completely entranced the whole time and am 100% invested in this story and Jude herself. I guess reading it right after the first, I was expecting it to be as twisty and surprising as the first. It is not. It is a certain point, but you have to wait a reallllllly long time for it (like the end) and I was in so much anticipation of it happening after the first book. That’s really the only thing I found disappointing. It is impossible to talk further without spoilers and being specific so
DO NOT READ PAST THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ IT!!!!!!
There are a few things I want to touch upon:
-I’m skipping right to the end. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!?!? I am not happy about the end of this book at all. I am actually furious and do not know why people like Cardan. WHAT A DICK. I am so enraged on behalf of Jude that all of her work and scheming and persistence and amazing strength inside and out led her to. Getting exiled from Elfhame?!? I AM NOT OK. THIS IS NOT OK.
-I hate Taryn even more than I already did. She might actually be my most hated character in all of fiction. WHAT A TWO-FACED BITCH. I hope everything bad happens in her life. And please don’t ever go around acting like you give one actual shit about Jude any more. I don’t wanna hear it. If Jude accepts her back into her life again in any capacity, ima lose it.
-The Ghost. I didn’t call it, but I did say in my review of the first book that I was most intrigued by him. I should have been suspicious because he did grab my attention so, but I was just intrigued.
-The Folk of the Air?!? Finally they were mentioned in this book (very briefly), but to have the whole series named after them, I am confused. Their part and importance must be to come? I’m guessing?
-The fact that I care this much and feel real feelings and such anger (lol) shows how much I like this series. I don’t like the way I feel at the end of this book, but I don’t think I’m supposed to. Diving into the next one immediately. I want my girl Jude back in Elfhame and back on top!

"I’m waiting for the rollercoaster to go over the drop into “holy shit mode like it did in the first book after a certain point where I couldn’t see anything coming. Hasn’t gotten there yet in this one. I do hope it happens! Otherwise I’ll be disappointed."

"“Oak, clearly anticipating this moment, chooses it to rip off his own glamour, revealing his horns.
‘See, Heather, he says. ‘We’re magic. Are you surprised?’
I’m dead 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Imagine in real life this happening to you."
