Finished! As for the hoopla around this book, I'm afraid I don't agree. I don't think the writing is particularly good, and the characters were only mildly interesting. I found them more disgusting or pitiable than interesting, and not even so bad as to provoke a strong reaction. I didn't care for "Dark Places" (hated it), and this book struck me as blah, so I think I'm done with Gillian Flynn. I knew from the back cover blurb that someone was a psychopath, so I didn't get the huge reveal I should have gotten midway through the book. This author hasn't got anything on Tana French, in writing, plot, I'd characterization. The only reason I gave the book 3 stars is that the mechanics of the writing and story were sound. Grammar, plotlines, syntax, that.sort of thing. All the things that make a book good were bleh, however. And why does she always write about people and places with zero redeeming features? If you want to lose all hope for Earth and humanity, read Gillian Flynn! There's a blurb they won't be using. Ah well...as you were.
