I was put off by the use of the N word within the first 30 pages and then wasn't really invested (yes, I'm aware of the evolving titles of the book over time). At times I felt like I was watching a play rather than reading a book, other times it felt like watching a tennis match volley after volley. I selected this book to try to diversify the years of publication of my reads, so I accomplished that, if nothing else. Just not my cup of tea.
