Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse, #2)

4 stars//
this book was actually insane. i loved it SO MUCH but it was so so disturbing, almost triggering because it is so detailed. it goes into all the gruesome things that happen in human trafficking and i'm sure everything that was described barely scratched the surface of what actually happens in reality. i have never felt so grateful to be safe and sound with a roof over my head before; this duet genuinely put into perspective how susceptible any woman is to this shit and how fucked up humans could be.
moving on, adeline deserves the entire world. i love her so so much; her coping mechanisms and thought process were so realistically described. her character development from the first book is evident in this one after everything she had to go through. i loved watching how she grew and accepted her feelings for zade even when she FINALLY realized he had violated her. i still do not like zade because of his god complex and the way he still never felt remorse for putting adeline through the traumatizing shit he did in the first book. CAN WE ALSO TALK ABOUT SIBBY????? i LOVE that bitch oh my god she was the perfect touch of comic relief we needed in this book. i NEED to know where she ends up *slams credit card on table* SPIN OFF??? PLS???
all in all, i'd rate this duet a solid 4 stars. the plot and characters are both incredibly complex and the intricacy of everything is just *chefs kiss* . despite dealing with such heavy topics in excessive detail, i could not put either books down, especially the second one. it's like they were laced with crack istg. i'd 100% recommend it to dark romance lovers BEARING IN MIND the trigger warnings. PLEASE look into the TWs first because these books are actually extremely triggering and super SUPER dark.
