Yalom's "Love's Executioner" was required reading for me in grad school. Gifted with the ability to convey the fascinating nuances of clinical casework in a highly accessible prose form, Yalom captures an audience beyond that of the academicians. "When Nietzsche Wept" takes us back to a time when medical convention commonly called for the "Hysteria" diagnosis for women who were thought to suffer a defective uterus. Depression and anxiety treatments mirrored the embryonic state of psychiatric evolution. Dr. Yalom lends us the shoes to walk upon these newly forming European avenues, right up to the doorstep of one of the 19th century's most tormented philosophic minds, Frederich Nietzsche.
