I'm so glad I stuck with this. I was ready to give up by page 100 because it seemed like just a collection of character sketches. Another reviewer on GoodReads recommended sticking with it because it gets better after page 200. And she was right. After page 200 plot begins to emerge, and elements that were presented in the earlier character sketches begin to coalesce.
