did not like it

You know, I read The Notebook and didn't like it, but I thought I'd give Nicholas Sparks another try. I always hear people raving about his books. So, I am planning on watching Nights in Rodanthe with my mom, and I wanted to read the book first. Let me tell you: it is terrible. Sparks' writing is so damn cheesy. I guess I shouldn't say the book wasn't entertaining because it had me laughing out loud several times. I even read certain passages to my girlfriends so we could get a good laugh. Plus, I think this guy tries to appeal to a Christian audience, but he has these characters having sex all week after they have only known each for about 36 hours. He justifies it, however, by claiming that they are "making love" because they have fallen into such a perfect love. Sparks also describes in great detail some of the most unnecessary things. There is one part where he describes a breakfast Paul cooks for Adrienne. It is like, "...the bacon was crispy but not burnt and he had added just the right amount of grated cheese to the scrambled eggs." Really, who gives a shit? Who is this guy's editor? So obviously I don't recommend this book. I don't think I will ever read another one of this guy's books again. Thank goodness this one was only 210 pages. It was near painful reading towards the end.
