it was ok
bookshelves: arc, fiction, 2-star, dnf

ARC provided by St. Martin's Press. This will be published July 26th, 2022.

Sadly this was a DNF at 30%.
30% and nothing pertinent had happened, reading was very boring, and I kept skimming trying to get to the good stuff which I, unfortunately, didn't find. No background on the characters—it just pushes you into a story (which works sometimes), but in this ensemble, it lacked. This made it hard to connect to the characters, especially when this is supposed to be a 'friends to lovers' trope... already incredibly hot and bothered about each other gave me nothing to work with or grow upon. I'm disappointed because the story premise and multicultural representation are things I always look for in my reading. This just didn't work for me.

Gleidis I felt the same way about The Dating Dare, book 2. The characters were crazy about each other from page 1 and whining about it how they shouldn't fall in love before the first chapter was over. I felt the whole book had been exposed in those first pages, which made things predictable and boring.

Kylie I DNF this at 27% in the same exact boat as you!

Christine Yessssss! I am at 27% atm and struggling 😬 I want to enjoy it SO much. The bones are there, but the story is not. I don't need 3 paragraphs on generic Jake headed to the store to get onions for his parents and then 4 more about him musing and philosophizing about said onions followed by a shift into thoughts of THE REST OF HIS DAMN LIFE and wrapped with another 2 paragraph discussion about the onions with his parents 😫😤☠️ The pacing is crushing. I want this friendship love! I want this successful woman with an anxiety disorder! I want the multicultural rep and loving family prepping food! I want this budding friendship between the single mom/bookstore owner and the other brilliant driven career woman! I want ravenous Bibliophile's 😂 But please drive the story forward!!!
