This book is the next leg of the Running With the Demon books and covers the apocalyptic world of John Ross' dreams come true.

On one hand, it's awesome - the detail of the post-apocalyptic world inhabited by mutants, once-men and demons as staged in the earlier RWtD books is fascinating, with hints of the fall of civilization and the ascendancy of the Void peppered through recollections of times past. There are only two known Knights of the Word left - Logan Tom and Angel, and they are both faced with insurmountable odds in order to save the world.

On the other hand it involves intertwining the story with the Shannara universe, which for me is uncharted territory that I'm not sure I want to get into. I've not heard too many good things about the series (save from Patrick who is an avid fan) and I honestly don't want to have to pick up a series of bug-killer weighted books in order to be able to read the writing on the wall. It's also disappointing on the level that Brooks said for years, 'This is not a Shannara series!'. Nothing like changing horses mid-stream.

However, I'm just happy to have an extension on the RWtD series, so I'm happy with this book, which essentially is a setup for the larger story arc. The only reason it gets a three was because of its terribly dangling ending that offers not even a shred of closure. I am however excited to begin work on the next book which I shall get to soon with any luck.
