Fake Out (Fake Boyfriend, #1)

This was a lovely sweet story to distract me from finals (lol don't mind my angsty judgment in my highlights whenever Damon blows off studying to hang out with Maddox).
I actually didn't think that I would like this book because it seems like a really d*ickish thing to do to tell your girlfriend you're gay to get out of dating her, but this was handled in an ok way and the "fake dating" thing was done REALLY well. I hate fake dating in general - Boyfriend Material drove me crazy - but in this case it made so much sense, and the second book has a good setup for it too.
There were a number of other things done really well:
-Bisexuality and bisexual discovery
-The characters' backgrounds. It was very believable to see Maddox and Damon's hangups - Maddox's with commitment, and Damon's with dating someone who thought he was straight. These were very well fleshed out and handled really well.
There were also some things that could have been better:
-Despite how well the characters were developed and how well their backgrounds were done, I didn't find their relationship convincing. It was clear they liked each other, but Maddox went from thinking he was straight to being 100% in love with Damon and interested in him physically. I almost felt like there should have been more internal conflict on his part, especially since he had never thought he was attracted to a man before.
Because I liked the characters but didn’t find them super memorable or their relationship 100% convincing, here’s where I’d put this book in the series:
1. Blindsided (book 4, Talon/Miller)
2. Deke (book 3, Ollie/Lennon)
3. Fake Out (book 1, Maddox/Damon)
4. Trick Play (book 2, Noah/Matt)
