bookshelves: biography, memoir, 2011-best-books

The struggle continued in this book as Frank arrived in NYC and worked low end jobs. The story gets a 4 star rating (as did "Angela's Ashes" and "Teacherman") because I find the sex part hard to believe. While serving in the US Army in Europe during the Korean War time frame I find it hard to believe that he would have to sleep with a woman that looked as though she had just been recently released from a concentration camp. With all the likely availability back in this time frame for American service men to find European women I just find this part a bit hard to accept. Again, one small blemish on otherwise a terrific work.
