All the plotless woman analyzing her life of a Sally Rooney book, but about the trans experience. Dear lord I loved this.
"Eventually you can't help but figure out that, while gender is a construct, so is a traffic light, and if you ignore either of them, you get hit by cars. Which, also, are constructs."
This book is an eye-opening look at one view of trans womanhood, the nuances of being trans, and the experience both before and after making that decision. Something that I'll never forget that this book brings up: there is a pressure on trans people to have complete confidence about their identity, so that they can prove to others that they are legitimate in their gender. It leaves no breathing room for trans people, no choice but to have unbridled confidence in their lives.
I just think this book is a funny, smart, and emotional look at the trans experience. I've been changed by it.
