Wait a second. This book only has 20,000 ratings?

I didn't actually review it?

Ok so.

Have you ever read a YA Fantasy you hated? The same ol same ol, crappy love interests, conflicts or affections that are unearned and a narrative voice that makes you really dislike the MC? That's how I felt when I read Fable recently.

Raybearer has none of this. Raybearer is, potentially, a perfect YA fantasy. But it is better than perfect because it is unlike every other other YA fantasy you have read. It is beautiful, complex, interesting. It shares a portion of the world that isn't usually depicted in Fantasy (at least from what I have read). The MC makes decisions that make sense for her age, her mistakes seem realistic based on her life experience.

Now I just want to do a head to head comparison of why Raybearer is an ideal YA Fantasy, while Fable is not. A good reminder that a genre does not make or break a book - the book itself does.
