really liked it

The Man Who Laughs is dramatic, novel, deep, and tragic as the name suggests.
Behind the man’s laughter lies the saddest story.
This is the scary clown who inspired the notorious villain, Joker.

I had watched the silent movie adaptation of the book (1928) three years ago, and it was so fascinating that encouraged me to read the original story written by Victor Hugo.
🌟 3.75
I have to admit that in the end, my eyes trimmed with tears, but at the same time I wanted to pour my coffee on the book. The only reason for me to not rate it 5 is the ending.

Brett C Great review, Parmida! I'm not familiar with this book and the origin image (creepy) of the Joker. I'm going to look into getting a copy. Thanks!

Parmida R. A. Thank you, Brett. The image is from that silent film. Great acting. I'm glad that you found my review encouraging. 🙂

Jill Hutchinson Good review, Parmida. I loved the silent film starring Conrad Veidt and luckily they changed the ending from that of the book.

Yes, Jill! Exactly. I totally loved the film and the acting. And I was badly shocked at the end of the book. Thank God the movie did changed the ending.
