dnf!!! this book was written by a man so to have the main character who was EIGHT and sexually assaulted by the only black character in this book at 5% was absolutely disgusting. even if you take out the fact that it was the black character doing it, having an eight year old be subjected to this literally only pages within the book (or at all really) is just fucking insane i’m not understanding how people rated it 4 or 5 stars after that.

This is also why I stopped reading, it was so disturbing. Why is no one talking about this??

This! I stopped reading. I don't want to read a book written by anyone, but especially a man, that details a child SA like this. It's disgusting and everyone glossing over it is disturbing.
I just got to this part in the story. Literally like 15 pages in and I go to the reviews to see if anyone is saying anything and literally no one is. There's no trigger warning or anything. I'm-
i was so confused about this part, it doesn’t happen in the show, and it didn’t add anything interesting to either of the girls characters, it was just so unnecessary
Also hate how terrible Jolene is written with the use of AAVE
this is exactly what i thought because then their relationship after that was so ‘nice� that it was just ??? why is the scene even there
