it was amazing

This book and its film adaptation stand as a landmark of my teenage years. The language and sweep of the book were like nothing I'd read, and the lushness and divine score of the film transported me.

I've read someone say 'It changes you', and you don't ever 'get over it'. I couldn't agree more. It's not explainable, it's nothing to do with altering one's opinions, or learning some fact. It isn't as simple as feeling more comfort and hope in being gay, although it certainly does achieve that. It isn't even a perfect work, there are some things that make no sense, and it has the feel of a final but one draft.

No, this book just causes some very deep shift or click inside you, something to do with aesthetics, the passing of time, and that elusive and mysterious place where we try to ask intellect, friendship, love and sex to coalesce. I can't explain it, you have to read it and find out.
