Learning about Michelle’s history before Obama’s presidency and reading her perspective is why I’m giving this book a positive rating. But the never-ending, useless details are the reason it gets a barely positive rating. I frankly don’t care that the law office was on the south side of the building and I don’t need to know the height, hair color, and complexion of a woman you met once and won’t ever mention again. Someone should tell Michelle that you don’t get paid by the word. It was a slog to get through this book and the main story was buried in all the pointless details. It could have been 2/3 of the length without losing its impact, and would probably have more impact because you wouldn’t zone out when there are overly-detailed descriptions of unimportant elements.
