** spoiler alert **
Im SO disappointed in this second book. I had such high hopes after the first one but it's giving the same disappointment as AWOTQ, where in a similar fashion nothing happened in the first 80%. It was dragged out for absolutely no reason.
Main plothole: if Nyktos takes the embers from sera and becomes primal of life can't he just bring her back? This makes no sense to me.
ASITE was incredible. It was packed full of character development, conflict, and had an actual plot and climax. I loved how Sera was portrayed differently and much less annoying than Poppy. However that all flew out the window with ALITF. Sera began to take on the annoying qualities of Poppy including arguing for the sake of arguing, the notion of "asking a lot of questions" and overall seeming to take a step back in her maturity level. As other reviewers said, poppy was sheltered her entire life so I can look past those annoying traits, however Sera was older and we were told had more life experiences meaning these characters shouldn't have developed in the same way.
The first 3/4 of this damn book had these two main repetitive series of events:
Sera brings someone back to life
Causes attack on the shadow realm
Someone dies
Sera brings them back to life
Shadowlands is attacked
Someone dies
Sera brings them back to life
Shadowlands is attacked
The other was the quite literal *mind numbing* arguments Sera had with every character:
Character: Don't go out into the fight so you don't get hurt
Sera: don't tell me what to do
C: I'm not I'm trying to protect you
Sera: I didn't ask you to do that
C: Well i don't care I'm telling you not to
Sera: well i don't care that you don't care
C: Please don't you might get hurt
Sera: I can protect myself and I need to help
C: I understand but please I'm asking you not to
Sera: I don't have to listen to you
I mean how many times do you need to have this conversation with every character???
Unfortunately Nyktos was a big fat flop as well. You're telling me a 200 year old god can't communicate his feelings or understand what "caring" is? And waiting until the end to tell her he could have loved her??? I'm not buying it. And sex was the only thing that brought them close. I wish we learned more about his past and why he so strongly insists he's not "good." Also the fucking dreams about the wolf. Just give us more information! We already know some of this from FBAA but come on. Give us something.
I also wish there was more exploration of how he could have loved her despite the Kardia being removed as again another reviewer pointed out that love is an emotion not a physical entity. And why didn't they visit Keela as soon as they knew she had Sortorias soul??
Overall there was little plot, reverse character development, literally no resolution and A LOT of immature arguments.
These two series have SO MUCH POTENTIAL Jennifer I BEG of you to get a better editor ðŸ˜
