Even though I'm not a romance reader, I really liked Book Lovers and Beach Read because the characters were emotionally mature and the plot didn't rely on miscommunication...

This book is the opposite. I still love her banter but didn't care for the rest.

Not her best...

Kaitlyn Crozier It’s like watching a low budget ‘rom com with terrible actors.

message 2: by D (new) - rated it 3 stars

D The whole quitting medicine pissed me off. I hated this book and most of the characters. Only two worth a damn were the two with the farm.

message 3: by Victoria (new)

Victoria This does not appeal to me at all. Your review solidifies it!

message 4: by Alessia (new)

Alessia I absolutely hated book lovers so I guess I would hate this even more 😂😂😂

Stella I totally agree. For me, it is a 2-star read at best. I was shocked that they had been together for 8 years yet know nothing about each other's insecurities.

Seff Or how Parth didn't realize Sabrina's? And she didn't realize she hated medicine in the last two years of medschool spring her rotations? This book was dumb.

Sara (sarawithoutanH) Ok yes this is how I felt too. I've been shocked by all the 5 star reviews.

Laura P. This. Totally agree. Although even banter wasn't as strong in this one.

Michelle Mann Same!! The banter in Book Lovers had me cracking up. This was just ok. Miscommunication tropes kill me. Who breaks up after an engagement and doesn’t talk about the whys?!

Christine P Could not agree more! It lacked depth for me

Starla Bench Yes! I see all these 4 & 5 star reviews & think what?!!
The characters were flat, and while there was still some fun banter (Henry’s great at that), the book seemed immature & very surface level. And I feel like the plot twist with the medical school decision just lacked ooomph.

Victoria Agreed. I kept thinking how unrealistic it all was which aggravated me.

Melissa I felt like Beach Read relied entirely on miscommunication - that’s so interesting how differently we all perceive a story!

message 14: by Dani (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dani I definitely agree, the miscommunication completely turned me off and made me really not care about the characters at all. I just ended up waiting for the book to be done instead of enjoying it.

message 15: by Lana (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lana Superchi I agree

Heather Groom I came here to see if ANYONE out there felt the same. I have loved her other books, but this one just misses the mark for me. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and I found it hard to just be invested in the story.

Mariela Couldn't agree more!

Robin Totally agree!!!! I was so disappointed in this one. Lots of immaturity from characters that should've and could've been wiser.

Courtney They were so annoying

message 20: by Wendy (new) - added it

Wendy Griffiths Agree! Did not connect with this one at all. Book Lovers was definitely my favorite. Hard to believe it’s the same author?!

Gloria Same for me here!!! I love her other books. This one, not really I suffered the last quarter of the book.

message 22: by Leena (new)

Leena Althekair spoil it for me please - do they get back together in the end?

message 23: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy 100% agree with this rating. I gave Beach Read and Book Lovers both 5 stars (which is super rare for me) and have this one 3 as well. It did not work for me. I was ready for it to be done when I was about 1/2 way in, but pushed through.

message 24: by Nancy (new) - added it

Nancy I had to return it to the library before I could push through. It didn't hit the mark for me either like the other two which were perfect.

Jackie Completely agree. I almost didn’t finish it, but decided to skim to the end.

Suzanne Wholeheartedly agree. The miscommunication did not work for me, given the length of their relationship. I kept putting this down. It dragged. By the 75% mark, I strongly disliked Harriet. Really loved Beach Read and Book Lovers.

THIS review. Thank you. I literally just closed the book and skimmed the last half of it. Everything about it was flat and felt very surface-level.
And also, we get it....rich white friends 🙄

message 28: by Viv (new) - rated it 2 stars

Viv Totally agree! I feel like that’s where the disconnect for me is in the book. It’s their immaturity and inability to have a real conversation.

DlSMANTLED Agree. I just feel like the main characters lack chemistry?? they don't have much in common, and the whole time I was reading I wasn't really rooting for them to get back together. The whole book felt...shallow idk. Beach read is still Emily Henry's best work for me.

Joelle Gebhardt Agreed.

YellowBookmark Agreed 👍 Yeah not my favorite either 🙂 but still enjoyed the dialogue between them.

Brittany Wow how interesting!! I actually felt the opposite for some reason. I gave some of her other books 3/4 stars while this one was actually my favorite. Weird!

message 33: by Alice (new)

Alice This review was helpful! I loved Book Lovers.. I HATED You And Me on Vacation. This one sounds more like the latter.

I still might check out Beach Read at some point!

message 34: by Teresa (new)

Teresa This is a surprisingly helpful review, thank you! I have ONLY read Book Lovers and Beach Read and they were fantastic (I'm not a big romance reader either). Funny Story is next and I'm deciding which of her others are on my tbr. This one may not make it.
