did not like it

What is wrong with the author.

Watch the movie. This book shouldn't exist.

The author wrote it after the movie and decided to add a pointless SA scene and some other questionable things... it's just nowhere near as good so don't waste your time.

*It made it to my worst books of 2022:

message 1: by Brightness (new)

Brightness Ok I saw this and my first thought was, how the hell did I not know this was a book?? I grew up on this movie. Whew. Glad I never read it and glad the film came first in this case.

message 2: by Jaedon (new) - added it

Jaedon Dingle Wait the movie came first? I didn’t know that

message 3: by Maher (new)

Maher Wow, I didn't know the book came out after the movie. I'm definately removing it from my TBR...

message 4: by Read by Curtis (new)

Read by Curtis Is it a novelization of a screenplay?

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda thanks, that's good to know, now I won't waste my time ~

Alec's Always Bored Every movie had a novelization back in the day

MaKayla Allen The original publication date is 1988, and the movie came out June 2 of 1989. I thought it was a decent read but to be fair I haven’t seen the movie.

Emma Lee Ah, then may be that's why I didn't understand the hype of this book. I'll go watch the movie. Thanks

message 9: by Noa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Noa Borree I think for people who didn’t read the book it isn’t really fair. I think you should give the people the chance to like the book and you shouldn’t say don’t waste your time, because it’s their time! Also it’s often so that if there’s a mobile and a book you almost always like the first you read/watch better. So don’t say it isn’t good, please. The author did his best job,so that’s really disrespectful.

message 10: by k6 (new)

k6 Thanks, i was about to put it on my TBR

Samantha Buchheit Noa, I feel the need to reply to your comment. First, the author of this book is a woman so "The author did his best job" isn't correct. Second, it's not really disrespectful to have valid criticisms of a book. Is this the first review you've ever read? I've heard people say way worse haha. Third, this author added a weird SA scene that was not in the movie, as the original commenter noted, so this was a very legitimate reason to dislike the book.

Samantha Buchheit Also to reply to Makayla Hunter-Allen, I'm almost certain this book came out after the movie. I'm not sure why the publication date is wrong on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, but I did some research and the film is semi-autobiographical, based on the screenwriter's life, so N. H. Kleinbaum did not come up with this story.

emma (: 1) some people prefer to read than to watch (me, for example)

2) the script was almost identical to the film, so i wouldn’t consider it ‘pointless

3) the sa scene WAS IN THE FILM. did you not watch it fully ? blink long enough to miss the entire party scene ? what an absolute ridiculously wrong thing to comment

Ollie Brown Can someone tell me if the SA scene was the one between Chris and Knox and was it like wrote in a way that encouraged it as in not from the victim?? Thanks

message 15: by Mary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mary @emma is right. I totally agree with her and I found the book was great, there was nothing in it that wasn’t in the film the film and the book were identical but I liked the book much more, bc I prefer to read

beatriz juana i agree i think the book is bad. the movie is way better.

Krzysztof Trzciński Lol

Skylar Its based off of the original script, not the movie. That's why the SA scene is included

Areta I read this book years ago and watched the video. They are both wonderful. Who cares which came first! It’s a chicken/egg thing, i. e., doesn’t matter!

✯ THE SA ACENE WAS IN THW MOVIE?? ATE U BLIND OR SMTH

message 21: by Yo (new) - rated it 2 stars

Yo Fav Cat lova If anyone is reading this, could you please answer me?
I have to hold a presentation on this book (my book choice since I didn't know that the book is just the novelisation on the movie) and I have to talk about the author, about who should I even talk about in this situation, this author or someone else? Please whoever knows the answer tell me because I only have like some days till the presentation..

Emmerson 🙈 The SA scene was in the movie to BEGIN WITHâ€

Emmerson 🙈 REPLYING TO THE PERSON WITH THE PRESENTATION- I think you should talk about how the story is about an event that happened in the authors life, and how strict parents can affect developing teenagers and why it’s important to consider their mental health.

Meara you didn’t like the cruel prince either so i think it’s safe to say that any opinions you have are void

celine I had no idea about that. i read the book after the movie and i thought main ideas were better processed in the book, especially ideas of free thought. It was more detailed and more effective. I felt sad abt most of the people did not like the book but it was my one of the favs :((

message 26: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Robles Thanks for this comment!

Julie spnc wait was sleeping during it ? what is the scene

Serina Elizabeth @ Julie in the movie Knox leaned in and gave Chris a forehead kiss but the book literally made it super inappropriate & fabricated it like it was assault I don’t understand why the author threw in Knox “feeling up on Chris breast when he never did! Super weird in my opinion.

Mayra Lucia To the people saying that the SA scene did happen in the movie, YES it happened BUT NOT in the way that it is written in the book, what Knox does in the book is 100 times worse

message 30: by (new) - added it

☆ It wasn't that bad, you know. The movie is better for sure but the author tried his best adaptation. If you want to criticize, please do - but keep in mind not to be this rude like if you think the book was this bad, write another one yourself and publish it.

🥝💗 There was a sa scene in the movie!! Did you even watch the entire movie bc how it’s looking right now you did not

percy jackson respectfully, the book is based off the ORIGINAL SCRIPT OF THE MOVIE. that knox scene with chris has always been there p.s. never rate again

aristocles only odd shit was the sa scene other than that i didnt think it was a bad book portrayal at all

message 34: by Adam (new) - rated it 4 stars

Adam the sa scene was a MC moving hands from their crush's neck towards their chest in a drunken act of 'passion'. Haven't seen the movie, its likely still better, but it's really not that serious nor worthy of a trigger warning (it seems your seriously offended by it).

message 35: by Reader (new)

Reader Honestly the book had pros and cons. But overall it isn’t exactly like the movie nor a 10/10 but still, enjoyable and I do recommend.

Lucy (Taylor's Version) The book is actually parts of the original script. It was then adapted into a book and then published after the movie came out. If you watch bloopers from the movie, you'll notice some similarities between them and the book. For example, Todd helping Neil with lines by the lake. I watched the movie first and still enjoyed the book, but that's just my opinion!

Olivia-Rose Ankers I disagree with you as it adds such a huge value to their characters , this is my favourite book ever.
