did not like it

Edited: I see that no one has bothered to respond to my review below. I am now reading On the Calculation of Volume Book 1 and getting the feelings of wonder and excitement I got from reading Annihilation. That author has written seven books, and I only hope she doesn't make the egotistical mistake that Vandermeer has made. If I sound bitter, it's because I loved his other books so much.

Original review: No, no, no. I didn't want to read about two F-ed-up narrators blabbing their boring thoughts and recollections and self-pity. I wanted to read about Area X. The Vempermeer has no clothes. Where is the brilliance of the first three books? I also had skipped some of the bird book, and I skipped the tedious diary in the City of Madmen/Shriek/Finch which was otherwise brilliant. Too much needless material. No one is going to tell him he needs an editor? Also noted what seemed to be a mistake when he was using a device he had to put down for a crucial reason and later he was using the same kind of device. Area X was ignored for endlessly building these characters. What's with the baby talk? So disappointed.
