Genuinely, after liking the first book, loving the second...and this piece of rubbish?
Some parts of this were written so well and made sense, and others were either really rushed/really drawn out or just simply felt forced into the storyline.
Where the second book was mostly romance and a few action bits in the background (not mad at this) this book seemed to over egg the "action" parts . By the middle, it felt as though SJM had made Hybern so powerful and formidable (with allies and the magical objects) she had to do some serious backtracking which led to these weird forced events which seemed stupid in comparison to the rest of the story.
I know she was probably trying to add more story, so maybe less romance bits?, but really this was quite incohesive and a chore to read.
Also, this may be controversial, but "mates" was WAY overused for my liking. A couple of times I get, but bloody hell we all know they are mates (as do the rest of the characters) you don't need to say it all the time!
