The Home for Unwanted Girls

A window on a world I know nothing about—Quebec. It is heartbreaking how pregnant young unmarried women were forced to give up their babies. In the 1950s, having a child out of wedlock was a stigma. I imagine things were even worse in Quebec, it having primarily a Catholic population. The life of Elodie and other “unwanted girls was absolutely criminal. While the outcome is predictable, the book is an interesting picture of another time and place.
