I loved this book. It took me a while to finish since it is long and I kept slipping in other books in-between. That is not the ideal way to read this story, but especially at this time of year, I am finishing up so many books.

This book is set in India and starts in 1900. It covers many members of a family over 77 years. I love family novels and learning the history, love, struggles, and triumphs that occur. All the while, the backdrop of the changes occurring in India, both politically and socially are woven in.

This is an Epic Novel and those tend to be slower in pace and character driven. So, I loved the characters and also love learning new pieces of history. Abraham Verghese is a Medical Doctor, so I really love that aspects of medicine are detailed in this book. I just found that fascinating and different.
