Daisy Jones & The Six

Narrated/performed by a fantastic cast featuring Jennifer Beals as Daisy Jones.
Observations: There were a lot of characters- not evenly developed. Billy, Daisy, Karen, Graham, and Camilla were well developed. Eddie was also given a pretty clear voice. Other bandmates- Pete and Warren- I kept forgetting even existed.
For the characters that were fleshed out-it was amazing how REAL they felt as characters and as a band! It felt like these events could really have happened, like these people could really BE in the world- more like a biography or "tell all" than a work of fiction. At some point, I began conflating Daisy Jones with Stevie Nicks (who - I believe- was her inspiration) and this may have influenced my impression of how real she felt.
The authentic feel of the characters obviously meant that they weren't always likeable. Daisy came across as free-spirited some times and just plain selfish at other times. For example: the time she went to Thailand, told her friend Simone to come- that Daisy needed her, but by the time Simone rushed out there, Daisy had impulsively married and left the country! I cheered for Daisy AND I cringed for her too. Billy had this kind of layered characterization too. Looked at one way he seems dedicated, perfectionist, and hard-working. But sometimes he crossed the line into obsessive, controlling, and utterly self absorbed. Taylor Jenkins Reid writes excellent characters but I really love her female characters most. Karen's character may have been my favorite in the book.
The ending is both bittersweet and satisfying. I liked this a little less than "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" (which I gave an A-) but this one is so good I can't give it less than an A- so "A- but not quite as good as Evelyn Hugo's A-"

"Enjoying this, though I don't like Daisy Jones as much as I liked Evelyn Hugo."

"This FEELS real. The characters, while not very likeable, feel real. It feels like I'm reading a fascinating biography. Also- the narration is absolutely incredible. There is an entire cast knocking it out of the park."
