UPDATED
I finished this last night and I couldn't speak. Even now, I'm still pulling my thoughts together around this. Immediately five stars. I would give this 5 million stars if I could. I'm going to come back to this review and update it when I can form complete sentences 😶
I pre-ordered the Kindle version of ALITF and cracked this baby open on pub day. It took me about 24 hours to finish and I didn't set it down except to sleep in between. You guys, it was so good. I would give it 5 million stars if I could!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
ALITF picks up exactly where ASITE left off. The plot revolves simultaneously around Sera discovering who she really is and what she really wants, and the developing relationship between her, Nyktos, and the Shadowlands itself. The highs are so high, and the lows are so low. It's absolutely emotional roller coaster.
🌶️🌶️🌶/5
This is a plot with spice, and the spice is top-notch. It doesn't feel forced, it doesn't feel repetitive, and it is HOT. 🥵 Ash really is the king of all virgins.
🌕
Spoilers:
Attes's betrayal was a huge disappointment and I didn't see that coming! I can't wait to see how that plays out.
Early on you learn that Nyktos meant what he said when he told Sera he could never love her- he had his kardia removed, which is the part of the soul that allows somebody to love. With that said, obviously it hasn't stopped him from carrying deeply about others and clearly about Sera herself. Frankly, I suspect that either it was never actually removed, or perhaps because Sera carries the embers of life, it's grown back. When she finally realizes that she's in love with him, he can taste her love, like "chocolate and strawberries," and it's not a taste he's ever known before. If he can taste love, I bet he can feel it!
🌕
The entire coronation scene... Chef's kiss. No notes. Her title 😭 It was the higlight of the whole book for me! Now I'm going to go cry into my pillow because Sera's in a cage and hope that the next book comes out on the same timeline as the rest of them, which would mean we'd be looking at May or June.
🌕
Did anybody catch the Primal responsible for the creation of Arlantians? 🤔
