“And then Thomas Hunter dreamed, and the world would never be the same.

“B is the first book in the Circle series of Ted Dekker’s greater Books of History Chronicles world.

Thomas Hunter lives in Denver with his sister Kara. Thomas Hunter lives in one of the coloured forests. Thomas Hunter is walking home from work. Thomas Hunter is lost in the black forest with his friend Bill. Thomas Hunter is running from thugs. Thomas Hunter is running from giant black bats. Thomas Hunter is struck by a bullet in the head. Thomas Hunter is being hunted. Thomas Hunter wakes up. Thomas Hunter is dreaming.

After being struck in the head, our main character Thomas wakes up in a dark forest and after being chased by giant black bats, he is rescued and taken to one of the coloured forests where he learns of the great histories. “The Great Deception they called it, is when a virus was created and wiped out most of the world. Thomas wakes up and what he believes to have been a strange dream, starts pointing to truth when the histories start playing out. Desperate to save the world, Thomas and his sister Kara try all means possible to get world leaders to believe in Thomas dreams. But are they dreams? Or is the modern world Thomas of Hunter’s dream.

I loved this book. It was such an interesting concept and I found myself confused about which was the real world. They were both so insistent in their reality that I found myself deciding they were both real. But if the future has already happened, can Thomas really change the past?

I especially loved the Christian themes the author was able to portray with the Great Romance and Elyon.

“The point is, we were created to love beauty. We love beauty because Elyon loves beauty. We love song because Elyon loves song. We love love because Elyon loves love. And we love to be loved because Elyon loves to be loved. In all these ways we are like Elyon. In one way or another, everything we do is tied to this unfolding story of love between us and Elyon.
