Fire (Graceling Realm, #2)

Wow! What a massive disappointment. So, Fire is heart-breakingly beautiful. So fabulously gorgeous that women don't like her, and men are hot for her (either to marry her, or to kill her). But of course (cliche, cliche) all she wants is to be left alone. When she has her period, monsters come down from the sky to eat her (because she too, is a monster). She has a casual sex relationship with one of her only friends, who would marry her if she would only consent. She likes his hands, but not his possessiveness (go grrl power!). Finally, she encounters a man whose mind she can't read, and goes ga-ga over him (Charlaine Harris, anyone?). All of this pseudo-excitement takes place during a war of course. The only interesting story in the book is the brief stint on the early days of King Leck, but really the story is all about how bee-yoo-ti-ful Fire is, poor thing.
