** spoiler alert **
The hype surrounding this book was EXTREME!!! So I had to put in on a hold in my Libby app and wait for MONTHS to see if it lived up to the hype. I have sooo many thoughts it would probably be easier to do a pros and cons list. So here we go:
Pros:
- THE UBER SCENE!!! Top of the list as it should be
- lots of communication between the characters. I hate a “miscommunication trope because it’s so juvenile. I really liked that both Nathan and Anastasia talked about their problems
- both characters are very headstrong. At first this annoyed me but then I thought “why?. It doesn’t make sense for anyone to have to sacrifice or change anything about their personality just to get a partner so I changed my mind
- the background/secondary characters are sweet
Cons:
- there were too many sub plots. Romance, revenge, family trauma, etc. It made the story feel like it went on forever
- Aaron sucks and I envisioned him looking like Ben Shapiro? That was hard to get over but I had no reference for how he was supposed to look
- this wasn’t OVERLY mentioned, but I hate the “small girl, big guy trope. I think in a romance novel it’s sometimes valuable to have the characters as least defined as possible so the reader can relate to it more.
- I wanted more resolution between Nate and his dad. Anastasia got her reconnection with her parents but Nate had nothing really to show from his dad aside from the one scene at new years.
Overall, I’m happy I read it and it was definitely nice to read a romance book with some spice to it.
