"I promise you. I promise you the stars. I promise you the lake and falls, coywolves and robins. I promise earth and heaven: I will love you long after the last human has taken his last breath. When the stars burn out and the oceans freeze over and the whole world is ash and dust and ice, our names will still be carved into this tree of life, side by side, and I'll still be loving you"
no words in the English language explain my feelings for this book.
this is one of those books that you want to re-read 500 times no matter how bad it hurts. I want to scream, cry, and throw myself into a magical body of water.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME.
Emily Henry can do no wrong.
1. the magic realism
This book makes you believe magic could really exist. It's written so perfectly I want to cry. Reading this book feels like holding a little piece of magic in your hands.
andddd now I've used to word magic way to many times.
anyways, the point is this book is the template for good magic realism.
2. june
first I must say, I am legally required to read any book in which there is a character named June. If I don't the FBI will be informed and I will be put in a high security federal prison.
Now you may think "Ari isn't that a little dramatic? what attachment do you have with the name June anyways?"
and to that I would say, oh dear reader. How foolish you are to think that I'm ever not dramatic. Also I just really really really really really really really really really really like the name June. I've been told it's abnormal to be in love with a name that you have no personal connection to, but I promise you, it's not.
ANYWAY.
June was beautifully written. Her relationship with her father was so beautiful and depicted so perfectly that I almost cried everytime June had conflict regarding his loss. (This book has me at gunpoint and I will give it every emotional response possible. That's why I'm crying so much.)
aside from just the relationship, Henry just has a knack for writing complex, flawed, realistic characters.
I seriously don't have words to describe my feelings. this is a mess.
overall : I WILL SCREAM ABOUT THIS TO ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN.
