This novel is utter perfection. Time travel written in 1979? HOW?
I am a new Stan of Octavia Butler because this was brilliant. Set in the late 1970’s, when it was written, it tells the story of Dana (a Black professional) married to Kevin (a white male writer) who gets pulled back in time to the south during slavery. That alone gripped me from chapter one! The characters were multidimensional and complex, and their evolution was palpable as the plot thickened and the narrative developed. The action is unpredictable and keeps the reader at the edge of their seat, never sure when the next time warp episode will occur, what for, or what drama will ensue as a result. Honestly, I cannot wait to watch the TV adaptation on Prime, I hope they do it justice.
