having read the first three books (which had already steadily declined in quality as the series progressed) I felt compelled to read the last one as well simply to put a proper end to the misery. unfortunately, my time seems to have been wasted because there is absolutely nothing of worth to find here. persephone has got to be one of the the dullest heroines of the century and yet every single soul gravels at her feet all the damn time?? it's just not realistic, not even for a fantasy series. also, what is the point of having hades' perspective in the main series when there is literally an entire other version of the series written from his perspective? miss st. clair, your cash-grabbyness is showing.

the story was flat. the characters were flat. the "spice" was painfully repetitive and ill-placed, like it was just there to fill up the spaces of absolute flatness in-between. I hated it. my eyes stung. literally the only thing I enjoyed in this book (and also the only reason why I gave it two stars rather than the one star it genuinely deserves) was the three or so pages of dionysus posing as a shitty doctor, but that is frankly a small grace to find in a nearly 600 page book. in previous books I have also found hermes funny but unfortunately he was absolutely dishonored in this one. it was painfully unfunny how funny miss st. clair tried to force him to be. he deserves better than a seat at the comic relief table.

at the end of the day this series had so much potential to be good but it is clear to me now that it is plain Bad and I do not think that I can in good conscience recommend it to anyone. goodbye
