it was amazing
bookshelves: fantasy

The sheer depth of Wizard's First Rule is simply amazing. His characters are unique and original, yet seem simple when you realize that they aren't perfect. Every chapter you read will cling you tighter to his series. Of course, many will dislike Terry Goodkind's works, either because he establishes dead on ethics in an 'I'm right, your wrong' approach, or because of dissatisfaction with his writing style, but it would be a baseless altercation to state that he is a run-in-the-mill, and mediocre author. Terry Goodkind deserves nothing but praise for this extraordinary novel.

Jeannie wow at last someone agrees with me!!

Jennice Hyden Me too!

Elizabeth I agree with you while his way later novels become to preachy and yawny for me this first novel and early subsequent novels are really great reads!

Brice Bennett I have read on other comments that this is "mediocre trash" AND "Almost every female character in the series is taped or is threatened with Rape" does this sound at all appropriate for an 11 year old? I am VERY glad I read these reviews that warns about explicit scenes.

Elizabeth Of course this is a book for older teenagers and adults why would you have an 11 year old reading adult material? I did however start reading this series as a very young teen.

Arnold Putans I was pleased to find a book that really entertained. It provided new fantasy concepts. It was fun to experience this story. I later picked up on the authors Ann Rand outlook on life. I do not hold to Ann's beliefs as my ideal, but it does make Richard an interesting character.

Kimberly Loved thus book!

Sherry i like this book. a fantasy is a fantasy. Does not have to make perfect sense. this is Fantasy....not non fiction.

message 9: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Absolutely loved this book, I read the entire series!

Kimberly House I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this is a fantastic novel. I was sincerely surprised to see, not just that there was someONE who didn't like this book, but that it seemed the majority of people hated it!?! Reading some of the reviews I was again shocked that people didn't seem to understand that Terry Goodkind was not glorifying his racist opinions or his perverted sexual appetites, but rather (in my opinion) he was pointing out so many of the problems and issues that plague us in the real world. He mirrored that beautifully I think. So, yay! I'm thrilled to see I'm not the only one. :-)

Binu Wow! I must have read a different book then.

Avaminn F'nett Personally, it was the horrible writing I had a problem with, not his philosophies.

Paige Nicholson I love these books and am completely shocked to find out most people appear to hate them!! I feel like they actually paint the way people largely think and behave in a very accurate light but also give fundamental "rules" to live by that are really great and I completely agree with! The writing style is smooth but not unchallenging, and the book lengths are great! I personally hate short books and love when there's a nice long series. I also feel like people could actually learn a lot by reading these books and I would recommend them to anyone who asked

Kerry Macdonald Number 1 fan here! I am currently reading Sword Of Truth for the third time! I've read all Sword Of Truth series and I keep reading Wizards First Rule! I simply love it! I pick up the book and say, "ok, Terry, take me away!"

Dennis Ha!! Great book!!

message 16: by Alex (new) - rated it 2 stars

Alex "Deserves nothing but praise," meaning this book should be free from criticism? How many pages did we have to spend with the Mud People just to realize they can't actually help with anything?

Ketutar Jensen I disagree with you in about everything you say. I suppose you haven't read that many books... I recommend you read some Michael Moorcock. I think you'll like his books.
Those reasons you mentioned are not why I dislike his books.
I don't think "altercation" means what you think it means.

Gaetano Ceneri You鈥檙e all joking, right? You need to read better authors!
