*update: just read Home Before Dark, so now knowing this author is capable of much better execution I have to bring this down to a solid 3.
3.5 I suppose. There was so much excess word diarrhea to make sure the less cerebral readers didn’t get confused or lost in the mysterious reveals. The last 1/3 of the book was just exhausting. Too much was tied in a nice neat bow to please the main character’s outcome.
