“A lonely, lovable, queer mountain lion narrates this star-making fever dream of a novel. ummm yes PLEASE!
I did not expect a queer mountain lion living under the Hollywood sign would be one of my favorite literary characters of the year, but this book wrecked me in a lot of unexpected ways. Reading this is an exercise in imagining the life of P-22, Griffith Park’s late celebrity mountain lion, and the other animals that call this city home. It’s an interrogation of human domination as an expression of fear, bloodlust, desperation, and power. It’s an homage to animalistic desire and the insatiable hunger that we all share as living beings.
—ĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔĔ
“Old is fine. I’m old because I’m not dead
“The shudder inside becomes unbearable. I can’t eat everything I’m afraid of.
“This is not about need. No, this is about want. It’s a terrible choice, but I’m making it just like a person.
